Kraus Guitars

BIO

William Kraus

The road to my lutherie career began with a lifelong fascination with musical instruments. As a youth, a passion for guitar construction, quality, and sound, and years of adjustment, modifications and repairs on my own instruments set me on my current path. In 2003 I felt it was time to take it to the next level. Twenty years after the thought first crossed my mind, a dream became reality when I attended the Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie in Phoenix, Arizona. After graduation from this five month long program in 2003, I spent a few years honing my craft at a local violin and stringed instrument repair shop making guitars and doing repair work before building my own shop in 2007. In addition, I have continued my education at the Whetstone Lutherie School, with seminars by Guitar making great Michael Millard of Froggy Bottom Guitars.

All construction of Kraus Guitars, including finishing, is done by me; no parts or work outsourced. These fine instruments are all handcrafted from start to finish.

Aesthetically, my simply appointed guitars allow the natural beauty and tonal quality of the unique woods to shine through. All materials are carefully selected for quality.  I will never compromise in the design or the craftsmanship of what I consider to be some of the finest looking and finest sounding acoustic guitars available.
